The Pickens County Coroner's Office has identified the body found Sunday just off the roadway on Massingill Memorial Drive west of Pickens.
The victim has been identified as, 68 year old Steve Crawford Whitmire of Liberty. The cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head and the manner of death has been ruled a homicide.
The Pickens County Sheriff's Office says 32 year old, Jeremy Basquette, who died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound after a police chase last week in Clemson, is a person of interest in the disappearance and death of Whitmire.
The Sheriff's Office and Coroner's investigation continues.
