A school district in the Upstate is set to rename a building in memory of a globally known alumnus and award winning actor.

Anderson County School District 5 has announced it will rename the Fine Arts Center at Southwood Academy in honor of the late Chadwick Boseman. He was an Anderson native and alumnus of T.L. Hanna high in District 5.

Boseman had an amazing acting career depicting James Brown, Thurgood Marshall and Jackie Robinson in films. He also starred in the Black Panther movies among others.

The announcement from Anderson County comes after Howard University renamed their Arts Building after him. Boseman graduated from there in 2000 and delivered the commencement speech at Howard in 2018.

He died in August of 2020 after a battle with colon cancer.
