Today the Greenlink Transit Center hosted a celebration honoring the ten winners of the inaugural Bus Shelter Art Contest.

The contest was a collaboration between Greenlink, the City of Greenville’s Arts in Public Places Commission, and the Greenville City Youth Commission.

Kacy Lyvers, chair of the Greenville City Youth Commission, said they were approached to help get youth involved and know more about public transportation.

"(The art on the shelters was) going to be near the high schools; that way it really brought the youth in and encouraged that use of public transportation," Lyvers said. "(The contest) was made to increase public transportation and civil engagement."

There were 59 submissions and a jury of seven judges selected the top 10 designs.

According to a release, the Arts in Public Places Commission awarded $3,500 toward production and installation costs to have the winning artwork digitized and adhered inside bus shelters throughout the City of Greenville with a vinyl wrap.
