Calls for Councilman to resign after Speedway disagreement

Calls for Councilman to resign after Speedway disagreement
Alex Saitta

The leaders in the effort to save an Upstate landmark are calling for the resignation of a Pickens County Councilman. Alex Saitta is one of just two council members who voted against forming a committee to preserve the track Monday night. The formation of the committee passed with a 4-2 vote.

A petition has since been started by those trying to save the track and is circulating online calling for Saitta's resignation. Saitta has fired back in response to the effort via social media. He's accusing those involved in spearheading the effort of trying to sabotage the potential development or sale.

Saitta claims the Save The Track leaders are calling for the track area to be zoned which would severely limit the options the current owner would have when selling. He also says it is a ploy by those same people to have some they approve of come in and buy the track at a steep discount.

Saitta claims that the leaders of the Save The Track movement have lobbied that the county take the track and property by invoking Eminent Domain something the councilman says he could never approve of. Saitta has not backed down and did not disclose any plans to resign amidst the backlash.
