State officials in North Carolina say well over 150 criminal cases have been dismissed after a State Trooper appeared to give false and misleading statements. WNCN TV in Raleigh reports that the Trooper in question is Garrett Lee Macario.
An investigation was launched by the NCBI after the Wake County District Attorney's Office reviewed a fatal crash case from last year involving Macario. The DA, Lorrin Freeman, said bodycam footage showed that Macario made what seemed to be false and misleading statements at the crash site.
The state then chose to dismiss nearly 180 cases involving Macario. Most of those were DWI cases in which he was the only witness.
WNCN says that Macario's supervisor Sgt. Matthew Morrison's credibility is also in question. Freeman confirmed that cases involving Morrison are also under review.
The TV station says the North Carolina Highway Patrol has confirmed that both men are currently on administrative duty.
