Clemson is one of more than 40 universities nationwide to be part of a Title IX investigation. Title IX bans discrimination based on race or national origin in education programs.
The federal Department of Education announced the new investigations last week. They had sent warning to schools a month ago that they could lose federal funding if they engaged in race-based preferential treatment.
Clemson is being investigated for its partnership with the PHD Project. That is a non-profit group that helps Hispanic, Black and Native American students only.
The Education Department has notified all schools involved with the PHD Project, they say the program uses race exclusionary practices. Officials at Clemson say the University is committed to cooperating with all federal regulations.
