Clinton Firefighter Killed in Easter Sunday Crash

An investigation is under way after a Clinton crash killed a Firefighter in the line of duty.

The crash happened Easter Sunday morning around 11am on Highway 72 near Springdale Drive.  According to the Clinton Fire Department, crews were responding to a call when the collision occurred. Firefighter Michael “Mike Mike” Vinson, died at the scene.

A second Firefighter, Nathan "Nate" Hall, on the engine was flown to Spartanburg Regional for treatment. According to the Joanna Fire Department, Hall suffered broken bones but has been released from the hospital.

The occupant of the other vehicle involved was also sent to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol's Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Teams team is investigating. Officials have not yet released Vinson's official cause of death.
