A local activist was joined by the family of a missing woman Thursday afternoon to announce proposed legislation to aid in the handling of missing persons cases in Greenville.
Two years ago, in 2022, Alexis Ware went missing from a 7-Eleven gas station in Anderson County. Her car was later found in McCormick County, but Ware herself was never found.
Alongside the family of Ware, local activist at District 25 Statehouse hopeful Bruce Wilson unveiled the legislation, dubbed the Alexis Ware Act to Enhance Missing Person Investigations.
The proposed legislation would allow the handing over of missing persons cases to SLED if local authorities hit a roadblock after 12 months of investigations.
In a social media post about the legislation, Wilson said “This crucial legislation aims to improve the state’s response to missing persons cases, ensuring a more comprehensive and effective approach to locating and supporting all missing individuals in South Carolina. By working together, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of families affected by disappearance and bring hope to those seeking answers.”
