Congressman William Timmons' Democrat opponent in the Fourth Congressional District race this November has withdrawn. The Post & Courier reports, Kenneth Hill of Simpsonville told the state election commission his job responsibilities in the state of New York would keep him from running an effective campaign and properly serving the constituents of the district which includes Greenville and Spartanburg counties.
State law requires a hearing to determine if Hill withdrew for a “legitimate, nonpolitical reason” and if so, filing will reopen for Democrats candidates and if more than one files, there will have to be a primary election. However if the hearing does not determine the withdrawal to be legitimate, Timmons would run opposed in the General Election.
Timmons, the incumbent won the Republican Primary in June over three challengers. Since he has been the subject of some controversy. Real Estate Developer Ron Rallis has been outspoken about his issues with Timmons. Rallis claims that Timmons had an extra-marital affair with his estranged wife. Timmons did not confirm nor deny that claim in multiple appearances on WORD programming.
Rallis also claims that Timmons abused his power and had him arrested on charges that Rallis described as " trumped up". Rallis has since been a topic of discussion, as he bought an old church building in Greenville and had it painted bright pink. When the church was first painted and began garnering attention, Rallis said he did it to call attention to issues he had.
