Greenville County Council is withholding tax funds to promote the controversial "Wings of the City" statues on display in downtown Greenville.
Council voted eight to four Tuesday to turn down the Hispanic Alliance's request for $7,500 of accommodations tax revenue to promote the project in tourism publications.
Greenville City Council had backed the artwork by Mexican sculptor Jorge Marin, but county officials heard complaints that the partially nude figures are not suitable for exhibition in family friendly areas like Falls Park.
