The Upstate's largest public library system is coming under scrutiny again concerning Pride Month displays. Last year, The Greenville County Library System was at the center of controversy after LGBTQ displays and pamphlets were prominently visible at the Travelers Rest branch.
The Library Board then implemented a policy to remove all displays, but there was a loophole. The change still allowed for seasonal theme displays inside branches. With that knowledge, staff at the TR branch then put up another LGBTQ display claiming that, with June being Pride Month, it is in-season.
The Post and Courier reports that the board is now considering changing its policy to ban all displays. Board Chair Bill Pinkston said in a committee "The library is creating or at least permitting problems between the community and the library".
The board is set to meet next week, and further discussion on the issue is expected.
