More time to make a decision has been given to an Upstate man who faces charges stemming from the January 6th U.S. Capitol incident. Anderson resident Derek Gunby will have until the end of June to decide whether to enter guilty pleas on three charges or to go to trial.
A federal judge gave Gunby the deadline during a hearing Tuesday. He's charged with Unlawfully Entering Capitol Grounds, Disrupting Government Business, and Disruptive Conduct In A Capitol Building. All of those are misdemeanor charges, Gunby faces a maximum penalty of a year in prison.
Gunby recently hired L.A. based lawyer John Pierce to represent him. The evidence against Gunby includes photos, videos and posts on his own social media accounts. He was originally arrested last summer and has been out since posting bond.
