The deputy that was critically injured after being shot by a suspect has now been identified. Oconee County Sheriff Mike Crenshaw says the deputy is 27 year old, Lucas Watts.
Crenshaw said in a statement Friday, that Corporal Watts is in stable but critical condition. The suspect in the shooting was taken into custody shortly after the incident, but the identity of the suspect has not been released, as the time of this report.
A prayer vigil was held for Watts at the Oconee County Law Enforcement Center, last night (Thursday). Before coming to work in Oconee County, Watts served with the Anderson County Sheriff's Office.
He remains at Greenville Memorial after being airlifted there and undergoing surgery. The Greenville County Sheriff's Office has taken over the investigation, due to Watts being related to a SLED official.
