An update on the Wednesday afternoon deputy-involved shooting.

A deputy involved shooting in Greenville following a warrant service at a location on Montague Road.


Sheriff Hobart Lewis at a press conference Wednesday evening said the shooting occurred just after 5pm.

Deputies working on the US Marshals Task Force were at the location searching for a suspect who had at least one active warrant.

The suspect was seen inside a duplex, and the shooting occurred shortly after.

The suspect, identified as 40-year-old Earl Hunter Laurens, was armed and pronounced dead on the scene. No deputies were injured.

The deputy involved in the shooting is being placed on paid administrative leave during the SLED investigation of the incident, which is standard in these situations.

The Greenville County Sheriff's Office this afternoon confirmed at least one deputy was involved in a shooting just after 5pm on Montague road.

No reports of deputy injuries, and information is currently limited as the sheriff's office begins its preliminary investigation on the scene.
