Florida Governor and 2024 GOP Presidential hopeful Ron DeSantis was in Greenville Wednesday afternoon, where he spoke at a campaign event and joined an interview with WORD’s Tara Servatius.

At the event, he spoke on his various campaign promises going into the 2024 presidential election, including combating ongoing inflation.

"You can't just say continue business as usual," DeSantis said. "You've gotta be somebody that understands that we need a fundamentally different [approach] here. As President, I will come in with a mandate to do that, and I think we'll be able to expand the majorities in the House and the Senate."

He also directly responded to Donald Trump's original 2016 promise to build a wall at the southern US border with Mexico and make America's neighbor pay for it and his follow-up this weekend where he explained that wasn't possible through available measures.

DeSantis focused heavily during his speech on how he would take on the former President's original promise by imposing fees on money Mexican immigrants sent back to their families in their home country and using that income to complete the border wall.

Following the event, he also spoke with WORD’s own Tara Servatius, where he explained why he believes he is the man for the job.

"I'll be the first veteran of a war elected since 1988. I could have made a lot of money; I decided to serve the country. That should tell people that I put service above self," DeSantis said. "I'm a father of three kids. I understand parents' rights, and I'm somebody that has a proven record. I'm the only one running that, everything I promised I would do, I delivered."
