Authorities are investigating a double fatality crash in Spartanburg County.
Highway Patrol reported in a release that the crash happened around 5:15 p.m. on US 29 near Locust Street in the Wellford area of Spartanburg County
A 2017 Dodge Charger was driving south while attempting to evade law enforcement when it struck a Jeep that was leaving a private drive.
The driver and passenger of the Charger were not wearing seatbelts and were both ejected from the vehicle. The passenger died at the scene; the driver was taken to Spartanburg Medical Center by EMS.
The driver of the Jeep died at the scene. Both cars caught on fire in the collision.
According to a release, both directions of US 29 were shut down following the collision.
The crash is still under investigation by Highway Patrol and Highway Patrol’s Multi-Disciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT).
