The South Carolina Highway Patrol says a late night crash killed the driver of a dump truck and landed the other driver behind bars. First reports, say an Audi sedan driven by 32 year old, Joan Esteban Velez crashed into the truck shortly before 12AM.
The crash caused the dump truck causing it to veer off of the Interstate and overturn near the Roper Mountain Road exit. Its driver, 58 year old David Mather Whitehead Sr. of High Point, North Carolina, was thrown from the wreckage.
Whitehead died at Greenville Memorial just before 1AM, Monday morning. Velez is charged with felony DUI and having an open container of alcohol in the vehicle. A passenger from the Audi is in the hospital.
