Get ready to pay a little more to heat your home...

Beginning this month, January 2026, Duke Energy Carolinas residential customers who use more than 1,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity per month will see about a $5 increase on their bill. Another increase of 84 cents will be added starting in March, 2026.

Meanwhile, beginning February 1, 2026, Duke Energy Progress residential customers will see an increase of about $11.

The company says the higher costs are largely due to Hurricane Helene, as Duke works to recover from what it calls “large and unexpected expenses.” In a press release, Duke Energy added that the increases will also help pay for upgrades to strengthen the power grid, improve reliability and storm resilience, and maintain and upgrade its generation fleet.
