South Carolina Superintendent Of Education Molly Spearman issued a statement Wednesday, that followed a U.S. District Court ruling. The federal court ruled in favor of a lawsuit backed by the ACLU, that was filed by parents of disabled students.

The suit claims the General Assembly Proviso against using school funds to enforce mask policy, is discriminatory against medically vulnerable students. Spearman advised school officials to consult with legal counsel, on what actions they need to take. Spearman also said the court used strong language, regarding barriers for disabled students. In fact, Judge Mary Geiger Lewis compared it to not building wheelchair ramps.

Governor McMaster responded, saying he disagrees with the ruling and he feels parents should be able to make this decision for their own children. McMaster added that he's willing to fight the ruling all the way to the Supreme Court.
