A failed political hopeful and self described Upstate community activist is facing felony charges in North Carolina. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg says Derrick Quarles was arrested there last month for felony larceny. Quarles is a former Democratic Statehouse Candidate in the Greenville area.
The police report says Quarles was shoplifting at a store in the SouthPark Mall in late July. He is accused of stealing cologne and clothes with a total value of nearly a $1,000. The arrest report alleges that Quarles was also removing the anti-theft off of the merchandise.
Quarles has ran for the District 25 Statehouse seat multiple times and has been beaten in the Democratic Primary each time. District 25 is located in Greenville County.
This is the latest run-in with police, but not the first for Quarles. Arrest records show, that he has a prior criminal history and has been arrested on multiple charges in the past.
