Three years after the disappearance of an Upstate woman, her family is now proposing a bill to state lawmakers. Alexis Ware was last seen in Anderson County in January of 2022. Her vehicle was later found in McCormick County, but she was not.
The proposed law titled the "Alexis Ware Act" was presented to the Greenville County Legislative Delegation at their meeting, Monday. The bill would allow families to request that SLED take over a missing person's investigation after it has been unresolved for over a year.
Ware's mother says she requested that SLED to take over the investigation last year, but that request was denied. SLED responded saying they could only investigate the matter if requested by local law enforcement or prosecutors.
Ware's family is urging state legislators to proposed and adopt the Alexis Ware Act into law. She remains missing to this day.
