The South Carolina Forestry Commission is currently conducting 80+ controlled burns throughout the state.
Controlled burns are conducted for Hazard Reduction, Hardwood Control, Piled Debris, Site Preparation, Wildlife Management and Disease Control.
Officials are reporting controlled burns are happening in the Sumter National Forest in Chester, Newberry, Edgefield and McCormick Counties. Park officials make every effort to notify the public of disruptions for visitors during burns. For more information, visit SCFC.gov.
