A young man from the Upstate once known as a national singing sensation, is singing the blues after being sentenced to prison following a fatal crash.
Former American Idol Contestant Caleb Kennedy pleaded guilty Monday to fatal DUI. The charge came after a 2022 crash in Spartanburg County that killed 54 year old, Larry Parris.
The Highway Patrol says Kennedy's truck went off the road onto a private driveway, struck Parris and pinned him against a building. Court documents say toxicology results showed that Kennedy had marijuana and Prozac in his system at the time of the crash.
Kennedy's original sentence of 25 years was suspended to 8 years. He also has been given credit for time served of more than 2 years and 9 months.
He was 17 years old at the time of the crash. Kennedy was a finalist on American Idol in 2021 before leaving the show after a controversial video with him in it, surfaced online.
