Walker was arrested June 22, 2023 on Tunnel Road in Asheville. That same day, he was released from the Sheriff's Office. On February 9, 2024, along with his guilty plea, Walker entered a conditional discharge agreement with prosecutors.

As a precondition of the agreement, Walker permanently surrendered his law enforcement certification to ensure that he could not be employed by any other agency as a law enforcement officer.
