A Former State Representative from the Low Country has been found dead in his home. Dorchester County's Christopher J. Murphy was found dead in his home, around 7:15 PM Wednesday according to the Coroner's Office.
Murphy, who was married and had two children, held various public service positions throughout his career. He most recently served in the South Carolina House of Representatives until resigning in January 2025. The cause and manner of his death remain under investigation. An autopsy will be conducted at the MUSC.
Congresswoman Nancy Mace released a statement saying, in part, "Chris devoted his life to public service... He leaves behind a legacy of service which touched countless lives across our state."
Chris Murphy was 58 years old.
