Former Upstate teacher extradited to face child sex crime charges

A former teacher at an Upstate school has been extradited to another state to face child sex crime charges. 42 year old Reed Messer, a former teacher at Legacy Early College Charter in Greenville is accused of having sex with a student in 2014, while working at a school in Wilmington, Delaware.

She was arrested at her home in Greenville and was extradited to Delaware, where she faces two counts of sexual abuse of a child and 20 total counts of 3rd and 4th degree rape.

Messer became a South Carolina certified teacher in 2015. She worked as a Special Education teacher at Legacy from 2018 until earlier this year. She was fired by Legacy in January after the school found out about the Delaware investigation.

Messer is currently being held in Delaware on a bond of over $300,000.
