It’s a designation few law enforcement agencies achieve—but one Upstate department is making history.
The Fountain Inn Police Department will become the first in Greenville County to receive the SAFE—Sexual Assault Forensic Excellence—designation. The honor, typically given to medical facilities, recognizes the department’s commitment to survivor-centered care. The designation reflects specialized training focused on compassionate response and evidence preservation.

The designation highlights the Fountain Inn Police Department's focus on compassionate response—aimed at reducing trauma while improving care and evidence collection. The SAFE Designation is a designation created in partnership with the South Carolina Victim Assistance Network (SCVAN), the South Carolina Attorney General's Office, South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, and the South Carolina Hospital Association.

The award will be presented May 14, 2026 during the Fountain Inn City Council meeting at 6 p.m. Fountain Inn Municipal Court - 300 Wall Street.
