A weekend house fire in the Upstate claimed the lives of four people, including two young children. Firefighters responded to a house fire on East Third Street in Gaffney around 1:40AM, Sunday.
Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler says one person escaped the fire and ran to a neighbors house to call 911. Video from the neighbors doorbell camera showed the house already fully engulfed in flames at the time.
Fowler says 4 people, 38 year old Willie Morris, 25 year old Dakeyia Shippy and two children, a 4 year old and a 7 month old baby died in the blaze.
Officials say the fire started when Morris was trying to refuel a Kerosene heater. The fire remains under investigation.
