The Cherokee County Coroner's office issued the following media release Tuesday.
Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler says a Gaffney man injured in a shooting incident Monday night has died. Fowler identified the victim as Michael McAlister, Jr., 30, of 224 Hill Street, died at 12:29 a.m. today at Spartanburg Medical Center.
“McAlister sustained a single gunshot wound to the head while in the front passenger’s seat of a 2009 Dodge Challenger. The incident occurred at 7:50 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Greenway Drive and Woodlawn Drive in Gaffney. McAlister was initially transported to Cherokee Medical Center and later transferred to Spartanburg Medical Center where he died while undergoing treatment,” Fowler said.
An autopsy will be performed as part of the death investigation which is continuing by the coroner’s office and Gaffney Police.
