Greenville County Schools Director of Media Relations Tim Waller was on The Charlie James Show on Wednesday afternoon discussing Governor McMaster’s recent executive order, which declared schools cannot require students to wear masks and that the decision belongs to the parents.
Waller said the number one question he received immediately following the announcement of the order was parents asking how they can opt out of mask wearing for their child.
"We put out a response last night because we didn't know the executive order was coming, and we had no heads-up whatsoever," Waller said. "We basically said, hey we got to read through the fifteen pages and see how this works and see how it affects our operations and everything we have in place before we can give you a definitive answer of what we're going to do. But by today, you know, we had a little more time and we decided we're going to go forward with that."
Following enough time to fully review the executive order, Waller said Greenville County Schools will be following the order and have posted a link on the GCS website for parents to download and fill out a form they can then send to school with their children for them to opt out of wearing a mask.
