A Georgia man will spend the next three decades behind bars after pleading guilty to child sex crimes in Western North Carolina. The U.S. Attorney's Office says, 30 year old William Stephen Wargo of Dallas, Georgia has pleaded guilty to crossing state lines with the intention of having sex with a 10 year old girl.
The case was tried in federal court in due to the defendant crossing state lines. Prosecutors say, Wargo began communicating with the girl in September of 2021. A month later, he was arrested in Henderson County, NC and was taken into custody at the pre-determined meeting location.
One the child's parents discovered the communication and alerted the Henderson County Sheriff's Office, which started the investigation. Wargo has been sentenced to 30 years in prison.
