A grand opening ceremony was held Friday for the new Headquarters for the Mauldin Fire Department.

The ceremony, featuring various local leaders, marked the grand opening of the new $7.5 million facility that is meant to help the city’s fire department as Mauldin anticipates continued growth.
Located just off West Butler Road only half a mile down the road from the previous headquarters, the 21,000 square foot building houses various facilities including dormitories, a new training space, weight room, a decontamination area, and an additional truck bay.

Mauldin Fire Chief Brian McHone said firefighters at the location will serve 48, 96 shifts, meaning two straight days of work followed by four days off. In that 48-hour work schedule, anywhere between 30 to 40 calls are regularly answered.
