A meeting of local elected officials came to an abrupt halt after a conservative leader proposed a measure to prohibit mask mandates. Greenville County Councilman Stan Tzouvelekas proposed an ordinance at Tuesday night's meeting to ban future mask mandates in the unincorporated parts of Greenville County.
As Tzouvelekas was speaking, he was gaveled down by Chairman Dan Tripp twice. Tripp then made a motion to adjourn the meeting which was quickly seconded and the meeting came to an end swiftly.

Tripp cites that Tzouvelekas was operating outside of the rules of order and not following proper protocol with his proposal. Tzouvelekas feels Tripp violated his 1st Amendment right with the move. Tripp contends that he was just following the rules.
The Greenville County Council is set to meet again in two weeks. Currently, it is unclear if Tzouvelekas plans to revisit the ordinance again at that time.
