A suspect is dead after a shooting with law enforcement after he ambushed a Greenville Police Officer over the weekend. The suspect was identified as 42 year old, William David Lane, Sunday morning.
Greenville County Sheriff Hobart Lewis joined the Charlie James Show Monday afternoon to reveal more details on the incident. Sheriff Lewis would relay an update on the officer's condition following being shot in the attack.
Lewis said "He's at home and is doing well. He may have some upcoming surgeries, but thank God he's okay. It is really by the grace of God that young man is alive and at home today".

While Lane died after a shootout with law enforcement, Lewis revealed the official cause of death that has been released.
Lewis said "The Coroner's report was released and it ruled his death as suicide, the manner of death. How many bullet holes were in him? I am not sure, but the actual cause of death was self inflicted. Whether he was shot before or after or how many times, there was a number of rounds exchanged."
The Sheriff's Office has said that they were familiar with Lane after some of his neighbors reported that he made comments that raised concerns. However, in those cases he wasn't found to have actually violated any law.
