The CEO and two other officials of the Greenville Housing Authority are on paid leave and under indictment for theft, fraud and bribery.
The indictments against CEO Shawn Williams, along with Corey Alson, Toyao Andrews and a contractor, Quinton Tate, were returned late last month by a grand jury in metro Atlanta's Dekalb County.
All involved were working then for the Georgia Department of Community Affairs. Specifically, according to the Georgia DA, Williams and the two other Greenville Housing Authority employees are charged with false statements, conspiracy to defraud the state, theft by deception, theft by taking by receiving and half a dozen counts of bribery.
One example cited by the grand jury alleges Williams paid a company owned by Andrews 64-thouand dollars between 2017 and 2019 for clearing offices, a service already provided by the owner of the building.
Greenville Housing Authority trustees say are also reviewing decisions made by Williams and others, and that Finance Director Beth Clark will serve as interim CEO.
