A Greenville judge has been suspended for misconduct. The South Carolina Supreme Court ruled that Judge Darrell Scott Fisher engaged in propert communications and failed to remain impartial during a restraining order hearing. The issue comes from a 2024 hearing on a motion for a restraining order.
Fisher admitted during the hearing that he had known the defendant for 30 years and the two had personal history. He then declined to issue the restraining order. He then released the plaintiff and her witnesses , and remained there to speak to the defendant.
During a private conversation with the defendant Judge Fisher and warned him saying "I had everything I needed to issue a restraining order". Fisher asked for leniency for his misconduct citing his over 40 years on the bench and his intentions to retire.
The State Supreme Court has suspended Fisher for 30 days. The judge is expected to retire later this year.
