The Greer City Council has voted unanimously in favor of the first reading of a $100 million investment in the local community.
Mayor Rick Danner and City Administrator Andy Merriman held a press conference Tuesday morning ahead of the council meeting to announce the planned investment.

Dubbed the "ForGreer" initiative, the investment includes facility and land acquisitions for a new fire station in the Groce Meadow Road area, a public safety police & fire training facility on Hood Road, and a new 500-space parking garage on Depot Street.

But the main attraction of the investment is a $60 million sports and events center.

Mayor Danner said the investment is meant to support the area's continued growth and development, saying "We are absolutely the heart of the Upstate. We have an incredible, incredible opportunity to be a middle market. We can be a leader in the new economy that is coming. It takes bold, committed, and trusted leadership to create a sense of place.”
