Spartanburg library leaders broke ground Tuesday afternoon on a new planetarium planned to open in early 2025.
The three-story planetarium has been in the works now for over three years and will be located in downtown Spartanburg next to the library system’s headquarters.
The planetarium will house various amenities, including classrooms and a 134-seat observation theater.
The now second and largest planetarium in Spartanburg is set to open in April of 2025 and will be used primarily for educational purposes.
A name has yet to be given to the planetarium.
The project was funded through private donations and county-issued bonds.
