Torrential rains have caused a bridge in North Carolina to collapse. Officials in Polk County, just over the South Carolina state line, say a bridge on Howard Gap Road in Tryon suffered cracking and sinking Tuesday morning.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation says the road has several large cracks that could cause it to break further. That stretch of road has been closed, and a detour around the bridge has been put in place. Downed trees and partial mudslides were also reported in the area.
