A high ranking member of an Upstate Sheriff's Office is retiring after 3 decades in law enforcement. Master Deputy Tony Ivey started with the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office in 1991, as a Uniform Patrol Deputy. He then would be assigned to the Crime Prevention Unit and oversee the DARE and Neighborhood Watch programs.

In 1997, he joined the Spartanburg Police Department. There he would become one of the first officers in South Carolina to become certified to teach gang resistance and training. He later became a Sergeant and supervised the Crime Prevention Unit.

In 2005, he came back to the Sheriff's Office, he was later promoted to Lieutenant and became the Public Information Officer for over 5 years. On Friday, the Sheriff's Office released a statement extending their gratitude to Master Deputy Ivey for his service.

His official last day on the job will be Wednesday August 31st. Corporal John Burgess will be taking on Ivey's duties going forward.
