
Title IX is a federal law that prohibits educational institutions from discriminating on the basis of sex or gender, but a religious exemption in the law allows religious institutions to get around that rule if adhering to it would go against their religion.
Religious universities are legally allowed to dismiss students due to their gender identity, gender expression, and sexual orientation.
