One of the major concerns from the immigration issue is how that could sway elections and affect voting around the country and here in South Carolina. State Senator Josh Kimbrell joined the Charlie James Show Tuesday to talk about that issue.
Kimbrell is sponsoring a bill that would make amendments to the State Constitution to change the wording in regards to who has the right to vote. Kimbrell said " California and other states have similar language (to South Carolina) in their constitutions have been able to use that as a loophole to allow illegals to vote in their municipal elections".
Kimbrell then explained the proposed amendment further. Kimbrell said " There's a push by some in this state that says even if someone is not a citizen or is here illegally, that they should be able to vote in the school board election, if there kid goes to the school. But, I believe that citizenship means something".
Kimbrell says 20 other State Senators have co-sponsored the bill. He hopes the proposed amendment can get on the ballot for November's election. The entire interview is below.
