Weeks before a trial date, A Laurens man pled guilty to the 2022 murder of his girlfriend. On Monday, 50 year old Lloyd Todd Cagle, pled guilty... his murder trial was set to start in January.
49 year old Terry Chermak, Cagel's girlfriend at the time, was reported missing in early September 2022 after she told family she wanted to break things off with Cagel.
Later that month, Investigators with the Laurens County Sheriff's Office discovered Chermak's body in a shallow grave wrapped in a blue tarp at her Laurens home. Investigators determined that Cagle shot her one time in the back of the head, and later found a .357-caliber revolver in the house.
Cagel fled and he was arrested by U.S. Marshals in Denver, Colorado.
On Monday, Cagle's guilty plea was taken straight-up. Circuit Judge Eugene C. Griffith Jr. sentenced Cagle to 35 years in prison.
