From humble beginnings, one Upstate business has seen explosive growth over the last several years.
Founded by Jay Orders in 1931 as Orders Mattress Company, the company has rebranded multiple times over the past 90 years into the Engineered Sleep of today.
Now operated by Orders’ grandson, the company has found explosive growth following the advent of online retailers.
"When online mattress shopping became a thing, probably in the 2008 - 2010 time period, when that started happening, the industry really started changing a lot," said Davis Orders, the great grandson of the company's founder and the Director of Sales and Market Operations at Engineered Sleep. "We've adapted to that and we feel like we're in a really good place as a company."
Engineered Sleep now produces over 300 mattresses that are shipped across the country daily from a 95,000 square foot facility the company moved into back in August.
Orders also explained that construction on a showroom at the new facility is also underway and is expected to be completed sometime in May.
