Officials in Spartanburg County for restitution to be paid in the case of former Sheriff Chuck Wright and his cohorts. The County filed a victim impact statement that cites that the county has suffered major financial losses due to breaches of trust from Wright and his co-conspirators Amos Durham and LB Watson.
The filing claims that Watson was paid nearly $350,000 by the county for work he did not perform between 2021 and last year. Wright and Durham have pleaded guilty to stealing money from a county benevolence found. The County says that between 2022 and 2025 Wright was stealing money to fund his drug habit. The County says his total compensation for that period was over $700,000.
After Wright resigned in the midst of a federal investigation Spartanburg County had to hold an election to find their new sheriff. The County claims that the primary, run off and general elections costed them over $180,000. Spartanburg County has requested restitution from each of the defendants to help off-set the losses suffered at tax payer expense.
