The Anderson County Sheriff's Office announced an arrest following the abduction and sexual assault of a woman on Tuesday.
The arrest was announced at an ACSO press conference this afternoon.
According to a previous press release, a woman reported she was abducted by an unknown assailant around 2:40 pm on Tuesday from the Ingles parking lot on Highway 81.
Sheriff Chad McBride said she was attacked from behind and choked until she passed out. When she awoke in her car, the assailant was driving and told her he would kill her if she even looked at him. He violently assaulted her, physically and sexually, before returning her to the Ingles parking lot at approximately 3:45 p.m.
The victim sustained serious head injuries during the attack and was hospitalized; McBride said she will hopefully be released in the next few days.
McBride credited the tireless and meticulous work of their investigative teams with today's arrest of the suspect, 44-year-old Jamaal Harvey.

One of the crime scene investigators found evidence that helped identify Harvey, which was crucial since there were limited witnesses and video cameras in the area.
Harvey has been charged with Criminal Sexual Conduct 1st Degree, Kidnapping, and Assault and Battery of a High and Aggravated Nature. McBride said more charges are possible.
