A man that federal officials say illegally immigrated to the Upstate, will spend the next four decades in prison after an alcohol fueled crash killed two boys in Spartanburg County. Court records show that Eri Roberto Perez pleaded guilty in connection to a crash that killed 12 year old, Dereon James Robins and 9 year old, Mikhail Lee Smith.
As we previously reported, the crash happened on Asheville Highway in April of this year. Perez was arrested the following day and charged with fatal DUI, driving without a license and open container.
After his arrest, ICE placed a detainer on Perez claiming he illegally immigrated to Spartanburg from Mexico. Perez has been sentenced to a combined 40 year prison sentence.
