Man wanted after his child overdosed on fentanyl now in custody

An Upstate man wanted after his child overdosed earlier this month, has now turned himself in. As we previously reported, The Laurens Police Department responded to a home on February 12th after a report that a child was having a cardiac emergency.

Upon arrival, officers found a 1 year old in distress and the baby was transported to an area hospital. The investigation revealed that the child had overdosed on fentanyl.


The mother, Naja Simpson was taken into custody on a charge of unlawful neglect of a child. A warrant was then issued a warrant for the father, Tyrist Johnson. Johnson turned himself on Tuesday.

He's charged with unlawful neglect of a child, fentanyl possession, conspiracy, a weapons violation and multiple other charges.
