March is Women's History Month, Governor McMaster among many others declared Monday.
Women's History Month began as Women's History Week when President Jimmy Carter designating as such during for the first week of March in 1980.
And since 1995, the President and many Governors have annually declared March as Women's History Month, recognizing the contributions of women throughout American history.
Every year, the National Women's History Alliance also selects a theme for the month. This years theme focuses on women's suffrage with the theme: "Valiant Women of the Vote: Refusing to Be Silenced."
