Press release below from the KCSO:
HIGH-RISK STAND-OFF ENDS PEACEFULLY IN CAMDEN; SUSPECT IN CUSTODYA volatile, multi-day domestic dispute and high-risk standoff ended peacefully on Wednesday afternoon, June 10, 2026, thanks to the coordinated efforts and strategic patience of the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) and regional public safety partners.
The incident began on Wednesday morning when KCSO deputies responded to a domestic dispute call at the 2000 block of White Oak Road. Upon arrival, deputies located a female victim exhibiting visible injuries across her entire face and body. The victim reported that she had been held against her will by her boyfriend, identified as Payne, for several days. During this period, she was subjected to multiple physical assaults. She further stated that Payne had discharged a firearm out a window, pointed the weapon at her head, and explicitly threatened to shoot anyone who approached the residence. The victim was successfully able to escape the home on Wednesday morning to seek help.
In response to the severe nature of the threats and allegations, the KCSO Special Response Team (SRT) deployed to the residence armed with both arrest and search warrants.

Payne initially refused repeated commands to exit the home made by KCSO negotiators via telephone and loudspeakers. To gain entry and ensure situational awareness, SRT members forced open the front door and utilized an indoor drone provided by the Camden Police Department to inspect the interior. As SRT units breached the suspect's bedroom window and prepared to deploy chemical munitions to safely flush him out, a South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) agent successfully contacted a member of Payne's family.
The family member was able to reach Payne directly via phone, ultimately convincing him to surrender. Payne exited the residence with his hands raised and was detained by SRT operators without further incident or injury.
“We thank God nobody was hurt during this volatile situation," stated Sheriff Lee Boan. "We would also like to thank our public safety partners who assisted us in reaching a peaceful resolution to this incident. The Camden Police Department, SLED, and the Kershaw County Fire Services have always been supportive of KCSO."
Daniel Teddy Payne, 36, of Camden, was taken into custody without incident and is currently being held at the Kershaw County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing. Payne faces multiple severe charges, including: Kidnapping, Pointing & Presenting a Firearm, Possession of a Weapon During a Violent Crime, Domestic Violence of a High and Aggravated Nature.
